I've made comments on each part of these videos just to give a little perspective. Howard was a vocal hater of the show - he was skeptical about any puppet show, and it was astounding that he actually invited me to appear. You can see in the first few seconds that he and Robin kinda dug the interaction. The thing is, Howard was very wary of "interviewing a puppet" because he did not want to feel he had to pretend Greg was real. Our publicist told him that I would not appear on camera, so they were ready to attack me because of that. So I made a fast reference to "Dan Milano," invited them to look behind the couch - and basically tried to let them know that I was not afraid to appear, which hopefully diffused some of that tension. I made fun of KC, when friends told me that Howard often made jokes about him. I said that Fox told me not to do the interview, which was not entirely true. But they were definitely nervous about it. It was my friend Kurt Leitner who really forced me to do it - he had them book me before I agreed, because he knew I might chicken out. And, helping me out as always, was my good friend Chris Bergoch - who was right there behind the couch with me. So at least I was never really alone in that room. :)
We should follow up to say that it actually turned out to be a good interview and that Howard was very cool - not only did we hold our ground and win him over a bit, but after the interview he was one of the nicest people ever. Goes to show that the on air personality is not always the same as the real person --- Dan Milano had a blast doing this and is proud of the appearance.
