Visiting puppeteer introduction thread
Okay, seems that the GtheB forum isn't the "hoppin'-est" place (YET), but when you DO arrive, I'd like to request that anyone who IS a puppeteer drop a little hello in this thread? Introduce yourself. Tell us about your puppets and your projects involving them. Tell us your hopes and fears, your dreams and accomplishments, your tartar sauces and Jujy Fruits!
Puppeteering is not an obvious talent. Its not like you can look someone over at a party or on the street and say "That guy's a puppeteer!" so having interaction with like-minded folk is a rarity in our business. I'd like to bridge that gap here if possible.
I feel a little foolish, as though speaking aloud to an empty room, but here's me:
Gordon Smuder, owner/operator of The Puppet Forge in Minneapolis, MN. I've been doing special effects work for the past 20 years and have always had a propensity towards making and performing puppets.
My current project is Transylvania Television, an al-puppet sitcom for grown-ups. No kiddies allowed. You can watch the pilot episode as well as many other clips and sketches at www.transylvania-tv.com
I also created and performed puppets for contestant Andrew Hunt on the Speilberg/FOX (non)reality show "On The Lot" in his segment called "Spaced Out"... which can be found on You Tube if you look hard enough.
That's the big stuff right now. I'm hardly "all over the place", but I get by.
So... who's next?

Hello...
I'm hardly a professional puppeteer, but I do have an interest in the subject (and soon, I'll have a webshow!)
I actually had a chance to do a photo op with my puppet and Dan and Greg at Comicon last year: unfortunately, my brother pushed the wrong button and we didn't get the shot, but I've still got my signed copy of "BOTFP" Volume 2!
I actually think I saw you there too, Gordon: I wanted to film a segment with you, but I lost track of your booth and couldn't find you again.

I was there at SDCC this last round, but not actually in 2007 if that's what you're referring to.
I had "temp space"... meaning I was borrowing some table space from Adventure Retail Inc. for a couple of hours every day. I'm not surprised that you didn't find me again! LOL!!

Just goes to show you how tumultuous SDCC can be!
If we end up getting some $$$ for the show, we'll probably have a REAL booth there in a year or two, but for now, I'm a super low budget operation ( out of pocket-low!) so I can't afford a REAL space. So I bummed a small space off of some VERY generous friends who run a retail operation.

Yeah, things are a bit quiet in this forum. I'm kinda surprised at that.
I have a great love of puppeting--which, I guess, is sorta funny as when I was a child the Muppets scared the hell out of me. Now, I'm talkin' old school Muppets here, long before "the Street of Seseme" when Mr. Henson's children were into a more dangerous brand of humor.
I'm not a professional puppeteer but I have done a 5 (so far) video series on YouTube featuring my friend Frank Sumatra wherein he gives voice to song parodies I wrote for my late (un)lamented stand-up act back in the last century. He also does a (I think) mean Dr. Zaius impression in the video "That's A Moray."
I've also checked out your site & watched the TVTV pilot and all I have to say is 2 words: Love it!
Can't wait for Season Two!
