Sorry for the late reply - Spencer Chinoy is a HUGE Peter Bagge fan and has been working over the years to bring a feature version of the HATE COMICS to the screen. Many of the images used in Greg & Jimmy's apartment (which was slightly based on our actual apartments) were designed by Jim Dultz (Team America, Muppets Tonight) and decorated by Beauchamp Hebb (Hannah Montana). I believe that bathroom also had a huge SEA MONKEYS poster, which I might still have somewhere... In one episode we even got permission from TENACIOUS D to have Seth wear one of their T-shirts...

dan this is a weird question, but were there ever any scripts written that didnt air? i have the dvd and the episode of the " singing mailman " which didnt air. I am just wondering if there were any more scripts for episodes and would u post them so we could read them? also, my FIANCEE loves the corey feldman " goonies " epsiode. were just wondering how you got him to do that episode, its great. i love warren, hes my fsav. and in that episode seth greens in warrens house, and on the wall is a 4 square colored painting of warren that looks like a keith herring painting. i wish you guys had copies of that for sale, anyways, we still really miss the show. watch it all the time. andy
I did just find the huge portrait of warren during a recent move and sadly it faded quite badly. I also found a lot of the little framed photos from his dressing room - I might offer those up as prizes in a giveaway contest sometime.

I think Singing Mailman actually did air on Fox, I forget which one was never shown. There was only one of the thirteen that didn't run -- I can't recall which. This is a tactic often employed by studios - they always hold onto ONE episode (as with Dollhouse recently) because according to contract they don't owe the creators certain moneys unless ALL episodes are broadcast...

The writing and production schedules were SO tight on that show - basically everything that was written got produced. BUT, I do think the SK2.0 episode was originally a script by a writer named Barton Dean called "How the Count Got His Blahs Back," which was a script all about Count Blah that our show runner tossed aside and rewrote as the 2.0 concept.

I might be able to find that original version and see about getting it, or at least an excerpt of it, posted...

The Corey Feldman episode "Jimmy Drives Gil Crazy," was an interesting one. We love it, and are proud of it, but it represents a major divide between the creators and the network. It's an episode ALL ABOUT the relationship between Seth Green and Eugene Levy, with a subplot about Seth and Sarah Silverman. The puppets are largely just supporting players in the human stories. The actors, in truth, were kind of uncomfortable with the relationships they were portraying.

For example, Seth and Sarah never really thought their characters would have any attraction to one another and that the sexual energy in this episode was kind of odd. Similarly, Eugene and Seth thought the father/son relationship was also kind of forced and strange. These were all mandates by the network to make the show feature our "Star cast" more prominently, while the puppets got less screen time.

Seth was a good sport about putting on that dress but of course he kind of wondered what the hell kind of show he had signed up for at this point, and poor Eugene had a bad back and was quite literally uncomfortable running down the street after a speeding police car.

Ah hollywood - so many stories.

BUT - we of course all did love how the show came out, and getting Corey was a nice bonus. We just called Corey and invited him to do the show and he's a good sport and was up for pretty much anything. He also had a casual friendship with Seth and loved the idea of working with the puppets. His only request was that we not confuse him with Corey Haim and make it clear to the audience that he was NOT currently an addict and had not been for many years. The scene we did in the car together was a lot of fun, and he was great about our ending where the cops beat him up.

I had to fight VERY hard to get the Cyndi Lauper theme for that sequence - our show runner did not think anyone knew the song or would "get" the joke. It was one of the few things I probably raised my voice over. ;)

Thanks for the great feedback - and as I type this I am about to close my laptop and head off to the VERY FIRST official creative meeting for our new MTV show, "Warren the Ape!!!"
d
woohoo long live warren the ape!!! thank god for you g the b has saved my sanity many times whenever i am in an awful move i throw in the fox or ifc discs and laugh my cares away
dan,

can i ask do you have a favorite character or episode? thanks for the response, sadly my fiancee and i still miss the show. we watch the dvds, but still dont understand why the show didnt make it longer. it was the funniest show ever. in a time of insult shows like crank yankers, and south park and other shows i never understood why it didnt last for years.
